New Start Highland offers a range of services including employability services for people who want to develop skills required to enter the workplace, plus a number of commercial enterprises ranging from Removals to Furniture Retail.

Through our employability programmes, we support people facing barriers to employment to gain confidence, skills and practical experience that enable them to move towards positive destinations. The Workplace Trainer plays a key role in delivering training, support and development opportunities that help participants progress towards employment, volunteering or further learning.

The post-holder will work closely with and report to the Recruitment and Training Manager across the range of activities covered by the post.

The working relationships and purpose of this post are to deliver high-quality employability and workplace training to participants with identified barriers to employment, supporting them to develop the skills, confidence and behaviours required to move towards sustainable employment.

The Workplace Trainer will work directly with participants through both group and one-to-one sessions, providing practical training, guidance and encouragement throughout their journey. The post holder will be committed to achieving positive outcomes and ensuring participants are supported to reach their full potential.

  • Delivering employability and workplace skills training to participants across New Start Highland programmes.
  • Supporting individuals with identified barriers to employment through tailored learning and development activities.
  • Facilitating both group-based and one-to-one training sessions.
  • Developing participant confidence, employability skills and workplace readiness.
  • Monitoring participant progress and identifying additional support needs where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate participant records, training documentation and session plans.
  • Contributing to positive participant destinations including employment, volunteering and further education or training.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure participants receive consistent and effective support.
  • Deliver structured group and one-to-one training sessions focused on employability and workplace skills.
  • Support participants to identify personal goals and develop action plans to achieve them.
  • Assist participants in overcoming barriers that may impact their progression towards employment.
  • Update session plans and training materials as required.
  • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to support participant development.
  • Support the collection of outcome data and reporting requirements.

Essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver engaging group and one-to-one training sessions.
  • Good presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to accurately record, monitor and report participant progress.
  • Understanding of barriers to employment and methods of supporting people to overcome them.
