New Start Highland Brings New Shop and Job Opportunities to Dingwall
Dingwall’s High Street is set to welcome a fresh addition this summer as New Start Highland opens a second shop in the town, bringing new retail and employment opportunities to the area.
The new retail space, which will occupy the former M&Co premises, marks the charity’s sixth location across the Highlands. It will offer an expanded selection of high-quality, affordable second-hand furniture and homeware, enhancing the town’s existing shopping options while promoting sustainability and reuse.
In addition to increasing access to pre-loved goods, the shop opening will create full-time, part-time and relief employment opportunities. Applications are now open for individuals interested in joining New Start Highland’s retail team.
Chief Executive of New Start Highland, James Dunbar, said:
“Dingwall has always been incredibly supportive of our work, and we’ve seen a clear demand to grow our furniture reuse initiative locally. Our original shop at 25/27 High Street will continue to be a well-loved destination for trinkets and treasures, while our new location just a short walk away, will become a vibrant hub for pre-loved furniture, homeware, books, and clothing.
“We also look forward to expanding our fantastic retail team and further investing in employment opportunities within the community.”
Retail is just one of New Start Highland’s commercial activities with others being removals, storage, house clearances and commercial training.
All profits are reinvested back into the organisation to fund its charitable activities which cover a holistic suite of services that help people in need move away from poverty and crisis. These services include furniture provision, employability training, cookery classes and housing support.
New Start Highland, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is at a key point of growth with further expansion plans on the horizon. Over the last 12 months it has served the local community over 132,000 times and has diverted over 70,000 items from landfill.
