Calman Young People's Services
Working with young people to discover their future
At Calman Young People’s Services we support young people facing challenges to develop essential life skills and take positive steps towards independence, education, training or employment.
We are a youth-led service providing tailored support and practical learning opportunities. We aim to help young people build confidence, recognise their potential and prepare for their future, at a pace that works for them.
We take time to get to know each young person, understanding their strengths, interests and aspirations so we can support them to make their own decisions about their future.
What we offer
Build confidence and independence
From learning to cook and managing money to developing communication skills, building positive relationships and planning for the future, we support you to gain skills and confidence for everyday life.
Through a range of activities and experiences, you’ll get the chance to explore your interests, meet others and develop skills that will equip you for the future. All of this will be driven by you at your pace.
Work experience
We offer a range of opportunities to gain practical work experience in our social enterprise café, Café Artysans. Working alongside our café and training team members, you can learn the skills needed to take the next steps into the world of work.
Café Artysans provides the opportunity for you to experience different aspects of the workplace as part of a real working team, including front of house and in the kitchen, but it’s about more than just hospitality experience. From communication and teamwork to problem solving and time management, you’ll gain transferable skills that will support you in any choice of job going forward.
Employability
When you feel ready to take your next steps towards work, we’ll be there to help you explore your options and see what you’d like to do next.
We will help through each stage of your employment journey from searching for and applying for jobs, preparing CVs and applications, understanding what employers are looking for and preparing for interviews.
Once you are successful in getting a job, we can continue working alongside you and your employer to help you settle into and keep your new job.
