Over the past 23 years New Start Highland has delivered a wide range of social services to transform Highland lives. New Start Highland also operates a number of commercial services to generate income to finance its charitable activities, including a nationwide Removals service. This new post is within the Removals team, delivering an effective Removals and Storage service. You may be required to work away from home and to travel to Scottish Islands with the team.

The post-holder will work closely with and report to the Removals and Transport Manager across the range of activities covered by the post.

The post-holder will be required to develop effective and positive working relationships with all New Start Highland departments, colleagues and customers.

  • To deliver a high quality, professional removal and storage service to meet departmental KPI’s and New Start Highland quality standards.

  • To maintain safe systems of work at all times ensuring quality of service and all relevant Health and Safety and driving regulations are consistently delivered.
  • To communicate clearly and effectively with other members of the team and the general public
  • To drive company vehicles up to and including 7.5 tonnes safely and efficiently.
  • To complete commercial removals (including lifting and handling) of a wide range of household and commercial items, whilst delivering excellent customer experience.
  • To ensure careful handling and efficient packing of all goods and furnishings.
  • To assist in ensuring that all relevant records are accurately maintained and are available for inspection as required.
  • To assist with the general maintenance of the vehicles.
  • Any other duties appropriate to post

There are 32 days annual leave per year FTE inclusive of public holidays rising to 35 days after five years’ service. There will be an opportunity to participate in a contributory pension scheme.

  • Understanding / awareness of good health and safety practices in a warehouse / driving context.
  • Basic Literacy and Numeracy
  • Current, clean driving licence with authorisation to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.
  • Current digital tachograph card.
  • Driver CPC qualified
  • FLT Qualification
  • Good awareness of Scottish geography
  • Previous experience of maintaining accurate records / documentation
  • Previous experience in a similar environment
  • Exceptional ability to relate to people and form and develop constructive relationships at all levels.

  • This is a physically demanding role which necessitates the requirement to routinely lift and handle heavy items of furniture and equipment. In many domestic and commercial removals heavy items will require to be moved up and down flights of stairs. A good state of physical health is therefore essential.
