Give your unwanted furniture a Fresh Start this New Year

Got two toasters for Christmas? That old sofa still taking up space in the garage?

This week we are unveiling a series of bus adverts, as part of a collection campaign in partnership with Blythswood Care and Waste Aware Scotland, which will detail information on our FREE collection service and the items required.

Ian Matheson, Operations Manager at Blythswood Care, said: "Christmas gifts  and January sales can often mean you now have surplus items: items other people would be delighted to have and use".

Isobel Prall, Enterprise Officer at New Start Highland, said: "We need furniture and household goods such as beds, cookers, kettles and carpet along with kitchen essentials to assist people to furnish their home with the basics in our local communities, particularly at this difficult time of year. Your help means a lot as we are able to continue to support over 3500 people a year across the Highlands. New Start is committed to assisting in the alleviation of poverty in the Highlands by reusing furniture and electrical items".

Ylva Haglund, Waste Aware Scotland Campaigns Officer, said: "By donating unwanted household items and Christmas gifts, people can play their part in securing a greener future for Scotland through diverting these items from landfill, whilst also enhancing the lives of those struggling financially who can't afford brand new items. Thousands of reuseable items still end up in landfill sites, when there are community projects which could make good use of them."
